Tucking God’s Truths Away In Our Hearts And Thinking About Them Every Day … Truly A Meaningful Form Of Spiritual Self-Care

Very often we seem to seriously complicate what truly is intended to be clearly simple.

We over think and over plan to such a degree that we can paralyze our capacity to move forward and make meaningful progress.

This is a real challenge, and it is incumbent upon us to find real wisdom and stability that can guide us forward in every way.

While we could construct a list of great possibilities that could help us, I want to advocate for the importance of memorizing scripture.

Colossians 3:16 openly encourages us to let the word of Christ richly dwell within us, with all wisdom … so that we can engage in teaching and encouraging one another … with great joy and thankfulness in our hearts for God.

What a rich endorsement this is for us to consider!

Consider these great benefits that come to us when we begin to actively interact with the Word of God and are inspired to live it out:

▪ turns our focus to all that is true and right
▪ takes us deeper so that we can be stronger
▪ trains our faith to be steadfast
▪ teaches us to walk in His ways
▪ tethers our hearts to the eternal
▪ transitions us to His very best

Chuck Swindoll certainly echoes this priority … “I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture. . . . No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified” (Growing Strong in the Seasons of Life, 61).

When we begin to respond to the Word of God in a more intimate way, His Word will have a more personal impact on our hearts and in our lives.

Hiding God’s Word in our hearts is a biblical mandate and in following this command we are more prepared to face challenges, overcome difficulties, make better decisions, provide better counsel, enrich our prayer life and enliven our love for the Word of God.

There is so much good for us to gain … and in fully following God’s instructions we will find the best of Him … and truly the best of us as well.

I know this is true and that it will make a difference for all of us.

I know that I am in … and you?
