”Demonstrative living and loving … are clarifying positions that seek to moderate extremes by establishing or re-establishing realities that often go missing … especially in times of tension or trouble when raging debates begin to prevail.

There is a deep sense that things are becoming divisive and difficult on too many fronts.

We know that these are the moments when great reformers begin to appear and there is a sense of longing to reset the stage in every way possible.

The biblical examples are clear and classic reminders to us, and a discerning historical review will reveal that in critical times, demonstrative voices are consistently present.

It seems to me that we are at such a moment once again … a moment when this call needs to capture our attention in an arresting kind of way.

The truth is that a solution will not be born out of the intellect or initiative of man but rather it will come from inspired hearts who have known intimate connection to Father God.

It is from this position that we can live and love demonstratively and in doing this we do put the best of us on full display.

Rick Dubose addresses this in his article, “Discipleship: Becoming More Like Jesus” and he does so by clarifying the importance of “demonstrating”._

Here is how he states this for us,

“The relational example is foundational for us. We are all natural-born imitators. We learn language and culture, develop habits, and form values by watching and listening to those around us. We imitate without trying and become like those we respect without even knowing it.”

He reminds us that “demonstrating” is what parents and teachers do and in doing so we know that they have more influence than any curriculum.

Demonstrative relationships are necessary!

Paul reminds us of this in 1 Corinthians 11:1, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”

“Demonstrating” …when this breaks down the loss is great and the heart of every man, woman and child is at risk! Duplicity leaves people feeling confused, conflicted, and discouraged. Ultimately, the life example will almost always have the greater impact.

It is critical that…

▪ we make this an engaged, whole-hearted expression
▪ we know that doing so honorably and humbly is greatly preferred
▪ we are always full of grace and mercy
▪ if it may not pass the test, then we should give it a rest
▪ we know that this is a game changer for sure
▪ this will give the world a smile
