Every Good Choice We Make Is Intentional, Often Hard To Execute And Always Costly … So Seek Out Spiritual Decision-Making

Making good choices is not only a critical life demand, it is equally a command directive of Christ-life development.

We are called to be like Jesus, to speak His words, to walk in His ways and to emulate His life. We know that we have been given the Father’s wisdom and that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth.

Both our life demonstration and our faith development are principle-driven … and we are constantly striving to “make good choices”.

As we pursue this and seek to put it into play, we will come to know this …

Every Good Choice We Make Is Intentional, Often Hard To Execute And Always Costly … So Seek Out Spiritual Decision-Making

A staff writer for Deep Spirituality wrote a very informative article entitled, “Spiritual Decision-Making” and this is what we learn,

“Every day, we’re faced with decisions that we must make, and those decisions will affect the direction of our lives in one of two fundamental ways: we’ll either get closer to God or further away. This is spiritual decision-making. Some decisions we deliberate on are small, or seemingly inconsequential and some have a more dramatic or lasting impact. And the bigger the decision gets the more stressful it can feel, and the more sensitive we may be to receive input from others if we haven’t exercised our own spiritual muscles.

Part of growing and maturing spiritually is learning to discern the difference between what’s important and what’s not according to God. He has to define what’s important, and not us; that’s the key element of spiritual decision-making. And what’s important to God is that our love grows: the way we know if a decision we make is the right one according to God is whether or not we become more loving people”.

Spiritual decision-making … this is the fundamental reality that we do want to capture and cultivate if we intend to make good choices. When we consistently manage this process it will profoundly influence our capacity to stay on mission and it will positively influence our spiritual maturation.

The author of this article also provides a stirring challenge for us, “You may find yourself in a position now where you’re needing to make a choice, and the choice you make will have serious ramifications spiritually and emotionally. Or, you may be reflecting on your daily life and seeing the need to reexamine your priorities based on the feedback you’re getting from friends, or a distance you feel in your relationship with God. Whatever the challenge may be, God wants us to see that the process of searching our hearts and making decisions based on what God wants for our lives is how we grow. He wants prayer for direction and clarity more than He wants us to try and be perfect on our own.” (Philippians 1:9-11 ESV/James 1:2-8 NLT)

Spiritual decision-making is a process of prioritizing that will keep us close to God … so we never look for a shortcut because there is no better way forward. This is the way of wisdom and it leads us to the life that we’ve always wanted!

I am in … and you!
