Setting The Pace To Win The Race!

Sports are a great metaphor for life … on so many levels. They can speak to the incredibly slow and painful process of development, the inspiration of desire, the intensity of discipline, the importance of devotion … and a long list of other things.

Anya Surnitsky, in her article, ‘Love The Olympics? Sports Are A Metaphor For Life’ says this, “My former field hockey coach, a former Olympic Goalie, always said that ‘sports are a metaphor for life.’ Sports offer the chance for redemption if you are willing to put in the time, effort, and energy to come back.”

Great insight and a powerful reminder … not just for athletes, but for all of us who want to be our best, do our best and give our best.

Setting The Pace To Win The Race!

This is the challenge that we must take on!

One of my cornerstone Bible verses that I have cherished since the earliest days of my faith development mirrors this reality.

I love how 1 Corinthians 9:24 is expressed in The Message, “You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win …”

This scripture invaded my heart and ignited something inside of me. I was determined to take my life and faith to a new level. In doing this, my heart was infused with purpose and a passion to live … all in!

Setting The Pace To Win The Race!

Clearly, positioning impacts pacing more than anything else.

▪ We are focused on the goal … loss of focus will always lead to failure
▪ We are free of every distraction … lingering distractions are deadly
▪ We are fully committed to win … lack of commitment takes us out of the race

Until we are in this space we have no chance of succeeding.

Setting The Pace To Win The Race!

▪ Is possibly the only way that we can fulfill His mandate and our mission
▪ Is perfectly Christ-like in every way
▪ Is positively the best decision one can make
▪ Is personal but the impact of this choice is powerfully public

This is how to live life fully … and nothing else will do!

Count me in … all in!
