I Am Pondering God’s Promise Of Expanding Understanding … Thanks To Pastor Jim Bradford

I have once again been reminded of the desire of our God to engage with us.

His desire is to equip us to fulfill our destiny, to enlarge our capacity and to expand our understanding.

All of this is at work in us, in order to empower us to fulfill His good will and to enable us to be in His employ.

Knowing this should make us intensely aware of the reality that our lives are not our own.

God has a plan, He has purchased us through the sacrifice of His Son, and He has the might and power to fulfill His purposes in us and through us.

With this is mind, it has brought me to this place of contemplation …

In a recent sermon, Pastor Bradford articulated to us the profound impact of what is said of Solomon in I Kings 4:29 “And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore”

While I was keenly aware of the rich wealth of the wisdom of Solomon, I had never considered the expanding understanding that he was also granted by the Father. I love the description of the kind of understanding that he was granted … “understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore.”

It was these gifts that marked Solomon’s life and legacy. We see both actively at work and we can become witnesses to the incredible impact that they had on the nation.

I love this quote from Matthew Henry’s Bible Commentary, “Never did the crown of Israel shine so bright, as when Solomon wore it.”

We can also begin to imagine what life could be for us if we could just lean into the wisdom of God and allow Him to stretch our minds and understanding.

This is His work to do but it is our choice to make!

Clearly, it is in the heart of God to work in our lives in this manner.

Consider these wonderful promises as well …

▪ Psalm 18:36 states this “You (GOD) enlarge my steps under me, and my feet have not slipped.”
▪ Psalm 118:5 says “From my distress I called upon the Lord. The Lord answered me and set me in a large place.”

Our God has made it clear to us in His Word that He wants to bless us. Solomon understood that, as did David in Psalm 18 and the psalmist in Psalm 118.

Many of you will recall the prayer of Jabez in I Chronicles 4:10.

This prayer so perfectly captures how we can pray in such a way as to receive the full blessing of our God.

I love this and I do hope that it will bless you and awaken “expanding understanding” in all of our hearts.

Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm so that it might not bring me pain!”

And God granted what he asked … there is so much good in the goodness of God!

May this be the pursuit of our hearts … now and forever!

My hope is that you are pondering with me!
